Armstrong Electronics was founded in 1968.

1982 - We installed the first TVRO satellite terminal in Ireland for Aeroflot at Shannon, Ireland.

1984 to 87 - We became the largest distributor of 1.8 - 3.7 metre satellite dishes in Europe.

1988 - The company was contracted by SIS, the horse racing channel, to supply and install over 1,000 TVRO terminals, for which it provides a four hour repair-turnaround service in Ireland. Armstrong Electronics Ltd commenced maintenance of Data networks for British Telecom. Many thousands of decoders were installed for Sky TV in Ireland.

1992 - Armstrong Electronics provided the first uplink in Ireland for the national TV network, RTE. Since then hundreds of pan-European and Transatlantic transmissions have been successfully completed.

1993 - Our Associate company in Poland has installed a TVRO network for the Billy Graham organisation. It also installs Data and Communications networks and exclusively represents BT, Trax, etc. in Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

1994 - The company was awarded an ESA contract to provide interactive training in Eastern Europe to 40 sites. This contract was completed on 10th December 1994 and was so successful that the European Union has funded larger follow-on contracts.

Armstrong Electronics is a full partner in the European Union Atlantic Arc Project, working with Universities in Spain, UK, Sweden, France and Finland to provide a fully interactive pan-European Data and Training Network.

1995 - The European Union commissioned a series of interactive training programmes for Poland under the PARR programme to be transmitted to 50 Regional Development Agency sites throughout Poland. The first programme started on 23rd September 1995. It is estimated that approximately 10,000 participated in this series.

Earth stations have been installed for the Polish Lotto, Tenfore, Orion, British Telecom, Unisource, etc. during 1995.

1996/8 - We recently received a contract to provide all the video, digital and transmission facilities for RTL7, a new TV channel, which is part of the RTL group, the largest broadcasting organisation in Europe.

Contract signed with EU based on experience and success of 1995 contract.

Satellite Earth Station installed for RTE in Tralee, Co. Kerry.

Three of the company's Uplinks operate to PanAmSat, Intelsat, Orion and Eutelsat on a daily basis for Video, Audio and Data.

In Ireland we are, we believe, the leading communications specialists and work very closely with RTE, British Telecom, SIS (the horse racing channel) and the Aviation Authority.

We maintain five depots in the following locations:- Dublin, Cork, Galway, Tipperary and Donegal providing a four hour response time anywhere in Ireland. All engineers are fully trained and regularly updated on new products and technology.

Our Chief Engineer, Mr Jerry Gatrell, worked for 18 years with Independant Television in the UK maintaining transmitter sites and with British Aerospace as Chief Operations Engineer for 4 years. Mr Gatrell is our major projects co-ordinator.

In Eastern Europe including Poland, The Czech Reppublic and Hungary we provide full technical services including VSAT installations, transmission facilities, Video conference installation and commissioning services by a team of skilled engineers.

We work closely with Polspace, the Polish Space Agency and in whose premises our offices and administration centre is located. We also have an office in Prague providing similar services.

Our engineers travel world-wide and at any one time we could be involved in contracts in many parts of the world simultaneously.

The company continues to expand and are pleased to announce that Dr George Waters, ex Director General of RTE and recently Technical Director of the European Broadcasting Union, Geneva, has joined the board as a Director of the company.

Senior technical management staff has recently been enhanced by Don Evetts MIEEE, ex European Space Agency, joining the company with special responsibility for VSAT design.
